Kumano Kodo

The ideal Temple traveler for the Kumano Kodo is someone who walks with intention. A person drawn not just to the physical challenge of the trail, but to what emerges in the silence between steps — the questions, the clarity, the unexpected encounters with oneself. Someone who understands that discomfort is not an obstacle, but a teacher. Who values depth over comfort, presence over distraction, and community over solitude — while also knowing how to be alone with their own thoughts for hours at a time. You don’t need to be a seasoned hiker. But you do need to be honest about why you’re here. The Kumano Kodo has a way of finding out.

This experience is exclusively for adults aged 18 and over.

YOUR STAY

Eight nights across three cities and one ancient trail — each stay chosen to match the spirit of the journey. In Kyoto and Osaka, carefully selected hotels offer the comfort and stillness you need before and after the pilgrimage. Along the Kumano Kodo, accommodation shifts — traditional guesthouses and retreat spaces tucked into mountain villages, where the simplicity is intentional and the surroundings do the talking. Some nights will be unlike anything you’ve stayed in before. That’s the point. The Kumano Kodo has always asked its pilgrims to leave comfort at the trailhead — and to discover what remains. Accommodation is in shared twin rooms, assigned thoughtfully by age and gender to ensure a comfortable and respectful experience for every traveler.
